White Water Rafting
The Zambezi is widely considered to be the greatest grade 5 river in the world, it is classified as a high volume; pool-drop river i.e. there is little exposed rock either in the rapids or the pools below the rapids. The distance between rapids varies from 100 metres to 2 kms.
Nothing beats the pure excitement and adrenaline rush you get from white water rafting on the Zambezi River, it will be without doubt a day that you will never forget. The level of the river depends completely on rainfall, so the season changes every year.
However high water is generally between December and August, and rafting will stop if the river is too high. Generally high water will give you a less exciting rafting trip as the water when high covers the rock on both sides and this is what causes the rapids in low water season. Low water is from approximately the end of August to the end of December, and the longer overnight trips are only on offer during the Low Water Season.
Half day (10 rapids) or full day (21 day) trips are offered depending on what you are after
At the end of your adventure, you have to climb out the gorge, which is quite long and steep (approx 250m) and it is recommended that you wear sneakers or rafters. The wildlife in this area is limited due to the steepness of the gorge but the scenery is beautiful.
