Domboshava Hills - Mativi Africa
The Hills have a lot of cultural significance to the locals as a site that was used for rainmaking ceremonies in the old days. The Hill has some historical importance and is also recognised as a Natural monument because of the Bushman paintings which are found in the caves surrounding the Hill.
The Domboshava Day trip begins with a pick up from the city centre, (N.B guests can opt for a morning tour which starts at 8:30 am or an afternoon trip from 2:30 pm) Guests travel to the Hills in a comfortable air-conditioned vehicle and as they make their way out they can have a glimpse of some of the city’s outlying suburban areas like Borrowdale and Pomona. The destination is about 30 to 35 minutes out of the city. The tour entails a hike up the hill, an impressive granite formation which is a result of years of geological processes like erosion. The climb is not very steep but good sturdy shoes are required for the exercise.
Guests will explore the Bushman paintings in the hills, and learn a little bit about the indigenous vegetation. Guests can pay an extra fee for a guided tour but in the absence of a guide, there is a marked path up the hill and through the caves. There is an interpretive centre at the site where guests will also learn a little about the area, the history and culture of the locals and the original inhabitants of the area. The tour takes about three hours in total.
Guests will be provided with chilled bottled water and the cost includes entrance fees to the Hills.
