Please support AWARE's fundraising event coming up on the 14th September - Rhino Awareness Day which is going to be held at Raintree in Harare.
AWARE focuses on animal welfare, wildlife conservation and research and habitat preservation. AWARE is unique in Zimbabwe in that it is the only environmental organisation that is directed and operated by veterinarians, pro-actively furthering the conservation and welfare of wildlife and wildlife habitats, with particular reference to conservation veterinary medicine.
As a result AWARE not only runs its own projects but actively supports many other environmental organisations with the delivery of veterinary and other professional scientific services on a pro bono basis. AWARE actively works to maintain good relationships with all the regulatory authorities, especially the Department of Veterinary Services (DVS) and Parks and Wildlife Management Authority of Zimbabwe (PWMA).
AWARE is a self-motivated, pro-active, determined and professional organisation and is well placed to continue to carry out vital work within Zimbabwe which is immediately essential and beneficial to domestic and wild animals, the environment, human habitations and the country as a whole.
AWARE's work includes domestic animal campaigns in rural communities, including spay, neuter and rabies vaccinations of dogs, donkey clinics, rehabilitation programs and education. In 2014, AWARE's main fundraising efforts concentrated on Rhino Protection Programs, mainly de-horning and ear nothing (for identification purposes) in an attempt to protect this species. AWARE has recently completed comprehensive de-horning operations on almost 40 animals around the country.
