Hippo Pools Wilderness Camp

Hippo Pools is an undiscovered wilderness retreat that lies within Umfurudzi National Park. Umfurudzi is located some 135km out of Harare in the Madziva area. A great place to visit when all you desire is some peace, a taste of the great outdoors, and a comfortable place to relax. Hippo Pools has been in existence for over 30 years but has undergone a recent facelift. Maintaining all that is wild the natural environment is still gorgeous. The accommodation has been upgraded and there is a significant development in the leisure activities on offer.

Visitors to Hippo Pools can choose the self-catered or full catering option and there are four choices of accommodation. For those who want to experience the real taste of the wildlife, there is a vast campsite, campers have access to an ablution block with flush toilets and showers, power points, and braai areas. There are safari tents as well if you want something different. Then there are luxury chalets and lodges for guest who wants a bit of modern convenience on their vacation. 

Chalets have spacious bedrooms, overhead fans, an ensuite bathroom with hot showers, a well-equipped kitchen (cooker, refrigerator, toaster, various cookware & crockery), and a lounge area. All accommodation is on the waterfront, overlooking Mazowe River. Guests can prepare meals, have a barbeque, or simply enjoy all meals from the Restaurant. 

Leisure activities offered are Fishing, Mountain Biking, Birding, Historical Tours, Horse Riding, tree trails, Game Walks, Canoeing, and Swimming. Hippo Pools is an excellent place for day visitors as well, offering all activities, a place to relax with loved ones, have a braai, and explore the park.  

Hippo Pools is a wilderness retreat with all the makings of a Life skills training location; it offers considerable space and the ideal environment for a variety of games and exercises. The camp offers these and other activities; Fishing, Mountain Biking, Birding, Historical Tours, Horse riding, tree trails, Game Walks, and Swimming. Activities can be tailor-made to suit the age of the client group. All groups should be prepared to conduct their own training as there is no Facilitator to lead team exercises.

Accommodation comprises a fully equipped campsite, some camping huts, and luxury chalets, groups can choose which option they prefer on a self-catered or full board basis.
